What do you get when you add a Malaysian to an all Indonesian band? I didn't know the answer to that question until I stumbled upon SenoF! Which happened to be the answer, actually.
SenoF is made up of four Indonesians and one Malaysian, playing music that encompasses various genres ranging from jazz, funk, pop, rock and alternative. The quintet, armed with dual vocals - Fara, the female lead, and Daniel the guitar-vocalist, along with Endra on guitar, Ferdaus on bass and Rivky on Drum/Percussions.
A little bit on their background, extracted from their
myspaceSenoF is a mixture of four Indonesian and one Malaysian musician, who are based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We are currently in the process of recording our album which we planned to be launched end of 2009. Our music comprises of many variety of music, combining from jazz, funk, pop, rock, alternative, and so on.The band started, when Endra and Fara started to write songs together, then on April 2008, one of their friend introduced him to Daniel, soon after, they logged a session, and show what songs each of them has written. In an instant, Daniel started to build interest and three of them formed first part of SenoF. In August 2008, SenoF won a battle of the band competition hosted by Sunway University, we performed an acoustic set, playing in a band category, and we somehow won that competition, which the competition was judged based on audience's text votes. On that competition, we met with Rivky who were playing for other band at that time. We introduced ourselves and asked if he wants to join. A month later, after the first jam session, we clicked immediately. So, after a while, we kept playing on an acoustic format, until Farique, SenoF’s producer, suggested us to try Ferdaus to become our bassist. We gave it a shot, and after a couple jam session and well-thought consideration, we unanimously decide that he is the bassist we were looking for after all. So, he joined SenoF on early March 2009. And we have shifted to a full band format since then. Titled Symphony of Soul, their only track available on myspace - this song was such a joy to listen to. It was funky even right from the beginning and it just continued to escalate! Funk elements were pretty evident throughout the entire track and the dual vocals paired almost seamlessly to create a rustic feel, a sense of familiarity.
Not very descriptive I know, however, they say a picture is worth a thousand words - I'm sure their myspace experience is worth more than that. http://www.myspace.com/senofmusic - check them out. And if you like what you hear, great news! They'll be playing this Wednesday at Laundry Italiannies' @ The Curve, 10 pm for Fly FM's Campur Chart! Drop by to check them out!
